New instalment of our interviews dedicated to the twelve gorgeous tattooed alt-model that embellish the official 2018 Tattoo Life calendar.
Now it’s time of talking with Northern Wisconsin born and Minneapolis adoptive citizen Sar Elle.
Huge Bon Iver fan (she has a long lettering of the band leaded by singer/songwriter Justin Vernon on her left thigh) and happy mother, Sar Elle is simply anxious to tell us all the secrets about the ink covering her body.
Here she comes!
What do you think about your September shooting? It’s very minimal and gorgeous at the same time: bright background and you seated on a stool…
Hands down one of the most amazing shoots I have had the opportunity to do. Christian Saint was someone whose work I had always admired, and this shoot just solidified my admiration for him as both an artist, and a person.
I swear he captured the most magnificent side of me.
Was the Bon Iver script (a quote from their song ‘Calgary’) your first tattoo ever or had you approached tattoo art before?
That tattoo was maybe my 10th piece or so. I’m not entirely too certain at this point to be honest.
You have a couple of skulls on your skin. Are you into that “fading beauty” syndrome?
Not really! (laughs) I just happened to have ended up with a couple skulls. Most notably, my chest piece which was done by my friend Claudia Billy Baca and it was adapted from a barrette my Grandmother has given me before her passing.
Who is the Hollywood character that you have on your right thigh? John Wayne, maybe?
Yes, John Wayne! I grew up watching old Western movies with my Grandmother and knew I needed to pay homage to that somehow. Huge shout out to Charlie Forbes for that gorgeous piece.
Tell me the names of your favourite tattoo artists met so far…
My dear friend Jed Leiknes, may he Rest In Peace. Also, my good friends Matt Buck, Alisha Gory, and the infamous Bob Tyrell.
Last question: you quoted Minneapolis as your “true home”. Are you a big Prince fan too?
Oh hell yes, I love Prince! I don’t think you can really have much of an affinity for Minnesota without having love for Prince. May he Rest in Peace too.
