Isnard Barbosa: Neo traditional and twisted realistic

The hallmark style of Isnard Barbosa rests on twin foundations: playing with his artistic background and innovating, to do fresh pieces which draw on Neo Traditional and Realism. We interviewed him in Dublin where he lives and has recently opened his first tattoo shop of his own, Legendary Tattoo Studio.

The full interview by M.B. is published on Tattoo Energy (October/November 2018 issue).
Hello Isnard. I am curious to find out more about your name. Where is it that you are from?
To be honest, I don’t know the origin of my name, Isnard Barbosa. I was born in Brazil and raised in Portugal and I’ve been all over the place – the US, Australia, Holland, UK, Norway, and other places too that I can’t remember right now!

Are you still at Dublin Ink?
I recently opened my own little private studio that I call Legendary Tattoo Studio! I’m still really good friends with the folks at Dublin Ink but I just need my own little space for now.

What do you like about Dublin?
It’s a really easy going city and the people are really nice and a bit crazy. But that’s the way I like it.

Let’s talk about your tattoo style based on Realism and Neo Traditional. How did you arrive at these two styles?
Okay, not too many people know this, but for fifteen years I tattooed in different styles, doing what they call Realistic Japanese, even Tribal. Just recently, maybe three years ago, I decided to do my own thing, mixing all my past knowledge and putting it all together. And it’s funny, but people starting noticing my style more.
