He fell in love with oriental style and have been working many years with enthusiastic dedication to his career: now Kostas Tzikalagias has become one of the most well-known artists in Greece and all over the world. He works at the Dirty Roses Tattoo Studio in Thessaloniki together with his colleague Alex Gotza, and presents here his brand new eBook for Tattoo Life.
Hi Kostas, would you like to introduce yourself to our readers?
I am a tattoo artist from Greece, living in Thessaloniki. When I’m not travelling you can find me in my studio, Dirty Roses, working with my crew.
When did you start tattooing and how would you define your style?
I’ve been tattooing for 20 years, and my style definitely has Oriental roots. I manage to keep some traditional textures but I always add a touch of my personal style: sometimes realistic and sometimes geometric elements.
Did it change over time?
My style has changed from day 1 and I’m still working on it.
Is it important for you to also paint and draw, beside of tattooing?
Yes. When I draw or paint for myself I feel free to do whatever comes to my mind. I can experiment a lot and can keep my mind away from tattoos.
What are your favourite subjects and techniques?
I prefer dark stories, mostly in black and grey.
Where did the idea of this eBook come from?
Above all from what I like to tattoo, but the result it’s also a bit different. I tried to do sort of a sketchbook, but in a different way. It’s a base for tattooing and gives freedom to do any changes.
What are your projects for the future?
I had great time working on this eBook, so now I’m thinking about a book.
