Tattoo Life Magazine May-June 2019

Tattoo Life March/April 2019

«We tell stories, we experience events, and we talk to people whom we believe are worth meeting. For every tattooist that we present, we carry out an in-depth selection of their works; we push whatever deserves to be noticed, and whoever is working hard as a serious professional in the tattoo scene. We show you events, tattoo conventions, or exhibitions which we believe are worthy of following year after year because we respect the organizers and are familiar with the promoters’ intentions […] We give you guidelines that we hope might be useful for your own experiences and personal choices…» (from In Your Own Image and Likeness, the editorial by Miki Vialetto))

Chuco Moreno: The War Paint of a Proud Chicano

“I am an ex-con turned family man, a proud Chicano, husband, father, and grandpa as of recent. I make tattoos for a living, and that’s really what you can expect to see posted on my pages.” In a nutshell, this is how Chuco Moreno describes himself and his profile, which is full of history, culture, pride, great love for his family and his one and only true love: Amber, the angel sent down to earth by someone up there to help him get his life back on track.

Eclipse Tattoo: The “ZIPPER” Generation

They have worked hard to fuse their know-how and years of experience together in an organic way, so that their project – Eclipse Tattoo Barcellona – might reflect everyone and no one in particular, at the same time. Their aim has been to create their own unique spirit and a well-defined look. Inside the Eclipse “container” you’ll find American Traditional, graphic art, the heraldic engraving technique, dreamlike images, alchemy, and religious art. The three founding members – El Carlo, David, and Rotor – all came from “Aloha Tattoos Bcn” and shared the same flamboyant flair, along with a dream to create a space where they could work in peace without having to prove anything to anyone. And in the lovely Gracia neighborhood, that’s the exact kind of place they’ve brought to life: industrial, large, and welcoming.

Evan Yu: A disconnected reality

His neo-traditional is populated with wide-eyed women wearing animal heads as headdresses. His tattoos have something dark and mysterious about them; they reveal unspoken stories about inner worlds. And as Evan Yu tells us, these characteristics are the same ones which are so clearly visible in today’s reality: an increasingly “social” world in which, however, individuals gravitate like solitary planets, slowly losing their capacity to communicate.

Neil Dransfield: Tattoos like moments in time

His style comes from within; it’s a reflection of his personality, interests and emotions. A cautious person and far too humble when it comes to himself, Neil Dransfield uses neo traditional like a springboard to his inner depths, revealing and expressing his inner world through tattooing – just as he’s already done with other art forms. What emerges is a style in which black has taken the place of colour, neo traditional can be seen here and there, and we sense the echo of a distant past, in which a certain masculine elegance and aesthetic was expressed through words, gestures, and objects. Neil offers all of this to his clients, creating polished tattoos that someone once defined as “moments in time”.

Daniel Merriam: My visions are my art

His paintings are dreamlike visions: imaginary castles, fanciful animals, theatrical masks, and split figures: they’re a jump into a virtual world which swings between the psychedelic and surreal.
