“Meeting the Master(s)” is the new leading title for 2019 in the series “The Great Books on The Art of Tattooing”, published by Tattoo Life: an amazing photographic book by Mathieu Rossignol (aka Zozios).
“I’m so pleased to be the publisher for this book by Zozios; it fills me with pride, because for me Horiyoshi is and always will be one of the five people who created the history and culture of tattooing.” by Miki Vialetto (from the foreword of the book)
For five years, Mathieu Rossignol travelled all over the world in order to meet the 49 protagonists portrayed in this amazing photographic volume. Each one of them tells the story of the encounters with the great Master Horiyoshi III, the main character of the book: like a prism his image is reflected in myriad ways by the experiences of the exceptional people who have met or crossed paths with him on their journeys through tattoo art.
Among these pages you will find portraited some of the prominent tattooists who have come across Master Horiyoshi III during the course of their careers, together with his closest friends like the great master Hatsumi Masaaki (the founder of the martial art Bujinkan), masters Hadjime Sorayama, Zaya, Ryuji Kazamatsuri (who shared the exhibition Korouten with Horiyoshi III), Alex Atala, who is one of the best chefs in the world, a variety of film producers, and many more… for a total of 49 people in all. Each one exceptional.
Mathieu Rossignol is the person who has connected all the dots for such a unique personality as Horiyoshi – as a man and as an artist.
“Meeting the Master(s)” will be out in September and will be presented at the upcoming International London Tattoo Convention 2019.
